Fifth After School Activities Season at RVIS

Riffa Views International School begins its fifth season of After School Activities for the 2009/2010 school year. After school activities at RVIS take place three days a week for one hour and provides the student body, faculty and parent community with a wide variety of choice for social, physical, creative, intellectual, and cultural experiences. This in turn broadens the personal experiences of the children, which complements the academic mission of the school and enriches the quality of life of the school community.

The after school program’s philosophy is focused on participation and cooperation which lets children enjoy themselves in a fun, stress-free environment, whilst exercising and making friends outside of the classroom. These programs provide avenues for children to explore a variety of extracurricular interests and to develop into well rounded young people.

Some of Season Five’s after school activities offered are French, Mad Science, Swimming, Scuba Diving, Sailing, Golf, Tennis, Gym Games, Brazilian Martial Arts, Art projects, Guitar, Violin, Crafts, Digital Photography, and Cooking.
RVIS is in its second year of operation with 189 students enrolled from Pre-Kindergarten through to Grade 6. The number of kids enrolled continues to rise with Grade 7 ready to open for the 2010-2011 school year.

قامت مدرسة الرفاع ڤيوز الدولية يوم الأحد 3 من مايو 2010 ببدء الموسم الخامس للأنشطة بعد المدرسية لعام 2009/2010 . و تتوفر أنشطة بعد المدرسة ثلاث مرات في الأسبوع و لمدة ساعة واحدة تضم الهيئة التدريسية و الطلاب وعائلاتهم و توفر خيارات واسعة في شتى المجالات منها الاجتماعية و الجسدية و الإبداعية و الفكرية و الثقافية. وهذا بدوره يوسع التجارب الشخصية للطلاب، و التي تكمل المهمة الأكاديمية للمدرسة وتثري نوعية حياة المجتمع المدرسي.

و تركز فلسفة برنامج المدرسة على المشاركة والتعاون التي تتيح الفرصة للأطفال بأن يمتعوا أنفسهم في جو من المرح ، و بيئة خالية من التوتر ، في حين يكونون صداقات خارج الفصول الدراسية. وتوفر هذه البرامج للأطفال السبل لاستكشاف مجموعة متنوعة من المناهج الغير دراسية لتطوير الشباب.

بعض ما توفره الأنشطة هذه هي : اللغة الفرنسية ، و العلوم ، السباحة ، الغطس ، الإبحار ، الغولف ، التنس ، ألعاب الجمباز ، فنون دفاع النفس البرازيلية ، المشاريع الفنية ، الجيتار ، الكمان ، الحرف اليدوية ، التصوير الرقمي ، والطبخ.

و هذه هي السنة الثانية من بداية بدا عمل المدرسة مع تسجيل 189 طالبا و طالبة للمرحلة التمهيدية وحتى الصف السادس. و عدد الأطفال المسجلون في ارتفاع مستمر مع استعداد الصف السابع لفتح المقاعد لعام 2010/2011.

CELEBRATES CULTURAL DIVERSITY

Riffa Views International School celebrated cultural diversity along with its students, faculty, staff, and parents, at the school’s first International Day. The event presented a perfect setting for students to have the opportunity to learn about other countries’ culture, traditions, handicrafts, food, and games.

The students also participated in a costume parade along with a presentation showing every country represented by the students, faculty and parents, featuring their country’s flag and national dress to start off the event. Then everyone was treated to a musical concert in the school’s cafetorium as the grand finale for the day.

RVIS Director, Bruce McWilliams commented: “We live in an increasingly culturally diverse society and for this reason it is important to help children understand cultural differences and recognize similarities. Cultural diversity is an important part of the learning experience of RVIS students.”

RVIS currently has 187 students enrolled from 24 different nationalities. Some of the countries represented at International Day were, Bahrain, United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, India, Korea, Pakistan, Lebanon, amongst many more.

At the International Day, students, faculty, staff and parents were also encouraged to offer donations in support of the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Mr. McWilliams commented: “RVIS decided to be a part of the solution and assist with relief efforts through donations that will reach Haiti via the United Nations World Food Program.”

Riffa Views International School Students Benefit from State-of-the-Art Technology

Riffa Views International School (RVIS) maximized the use of its state-of-the-art technology to reclaim as much learning time as possible for its students during the official closure of all schools in Bahrain. Teachers at RVIS were able to create meaningful learning activities for all grade levels and subject areas as students completed their assignments outside the school via the Homelink pages on the school website.

RVIS is wired with fiber-optic cable as well as wireless network throughout the campus. This allows to seamlessly integrate high-speed internet, intranet, videoconferencing and state-of-the-art home/school communication. RVIS Director, Bruce McWilliams, commented: “The Homelink program helped students improve literacy and math skills in an exciting and challenging way, in addition to allowing them to have access to subscribed on-line learning programs. Parents were also asked to encourage and support their children while they were busy completing their Homelink assignments.”

Students from grades 1 to 6 are now back to school and RVIS held a ‘Curriculum Night’ which started by celebrating the school’s growth from 78 students last year to 178 students this year. Alfredo Laffitte, CEO of Riffa Views commented on this achievement: “We are pleased to see that RVIS community is growing in parallel to the Riffa Views community. RVIS is implementing as part of its mission the core values of Riffa Views by engaging students in environmental awareness and action, by promoting multicultural understanding and assisting them in becoming ethical contributors to a global society.”

At the ‘Curriculum Night’ each teacher did a SmartBoard presentation describing RVIS’ four core subjects: language arts, math, science and social studies, and highlighted the class expectations and how parents can help support their child’s learning. The Arabic team gave creative presentations regarding RVIS’ two innovative Arabic programs, one for native speakers and the other for non-native speakers.
