England Team Confirmed for Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships

A team of the most talented young players from ‘England Netball’ has been selected to travel to Bahrain to compete at this month’s Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships to be held at the Bahrain Rugby Club on the 13th & 14th March.
For the second consecutive year, England Premier League players from Hucclecote Netball Club in Gloucestershire will compete against the top Gulf teams in a fiercely contested battle for the Invitational Cup. Hucclecote will attempt to retain their undefeated record from last year’s competition against the top-ranked teams from Bahrain, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

Dubai Netball teams’ spokesperson, Dr. Mercedes Sheen said: “The inclusion of the England players for the second consecutive year raises the bar at the tournament. We are not only competing against the Gulf teams, but we get to test our mettle against some of the best young players in England. We lost to them last year and we aim to change that this year. We are training hard and can’t wait to meet them on the courts again”
The team members from Hucclecote play for England in the under 19 and under 21 categories and are accustomed to competitive play. Hucclecote coach and Sky News Sports commentator, Sue Wainwright said: “This will be a fantastic experience for our girls. The toughest thing is that they will have to contend playing outdoors and in the heat and the team mainly plays all the matches indoors. I am confident that the squad will perform well despite coming up against very talented Gulf teams. We are taking nothing for granted; all our players know that they have to produce their best netball on the weekend.”

و سوف يتنافس لاعبين الدوري الممتاز الانكليزي للسنة الثانية على التوالي مع اللاعبين من نادي هيكليكوت لكرة الشبكة في جلوسيسترشاير للقمة الخليجية في معركة حامية للحصول على كأس الدعوة. و سيحاول الهيكليكوت بالاحتفاظ بها حيث سجل في العام الماضي على قمة التصنيف في كل من البحرين ودبي وأبو ظبي.
و قال المتحدث باسم فريق دبي لكرة الشبكة السيد مرسيدس شين: “إن إدراج لاعبين من انكلترا للعام الثاني على التوالي يثير الحمية في البطولة. و نحن هنا لا تتنافس مع فرق الخليج فقط ، ولكن نصل لتجربة النشاط ضد مجموعة من أفضل اللاعبين الشباب في انجلترا. و لقد خسرنا في العام الماضي، و لكننا نهدف إلى تغيير النتائج هذا العام. لا يسعنا الانتظار حيث نتدرب جاهدين للمنافسات القادمة و نحن سنوفي بوعدنا بلقاء الفرق في الملعب مجددا”
يلعب أعضاء فريق هيكليكوت في انجلترا تحت 19 و 21 فئة واعتادوا المنافسة على اللعب. و علق وينرايت سو مدرب هيكليكوت والمعلق الرياضي لقناة سكاي نيوز قائلاََ : “ستكون هذه تجربة رائعة للفتيات. أصعب شيء هو انه سيتعين عليهم المواجهة واللعب في الهواء الطلق في الحرارة والفريق يلعب بشكل رئيسي في جميع المباريات في الداخل. وإنني على ثقة بأننا سنفوز بالمواجهات المقبلة على الرغم من الأداء الجيد لفرق الموهوبين الخليج. ونحن لا نستخف؛ حيث نعرف جميعا بأن لاعبينا لديهم القدرة على إنتاج أفضل لعب لكرة الشبكة في نهاية الأسبوع المقبل. ”

Record number of teams boost the Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships

A record of 26 teams will participate at the Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships which will be held at the Bahrain Rugby Club in Saar on the 13th and 14th March.
21 Ladies’ teams from Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dubai, Qatar and Kuwait will battle it out for the Cup, Plate and Bowl during the two-day event. Four men’s teams and the award-winning team from Hucclecote Netball Club in England will join them. The men will play in their own division, while the Hucclecote team will play against the top 8 ranked Gulf teams in a separate competition called the Invitational Cup.
Dubai leads the field with 7 registered teams for the 23rd annual tournament. Top seed Dubai A will have to fend off previous winners Abu Dhabi A who are keen to re-claim the title. Abu Dhabi spokeswoman Jaqueline Coetzee said: “The Abu Dhabi teams are so excited to return to Bahrain for the Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships, which was extremely successful in 2008.”

“The tournament is the highlight of the Abu Dhabi netball season and we have a formidable record in the event which we hope to build on. We are particularly excited to field a men’s team, which will be a first for the capital. The 3 Abu Dhabi teams have been training rigorously and the competitive spirit is high in the camp!” Mrs. Coetzee ended.
Over 150 matches will be played at the Bahrain Rugby Club’s netball courts over the two-day competition. Teams will be divided into three pools for the first stage of the competition to establish rankings before moving into the finals on the second day in which they will play knockout matches.
The Riffa Views Bahrain Netball League will enter 5 ladies’ teams and 1 men’s team into this year’s tournament. The Bahrain Premier Team (Bahrain A) has been training as a unit since September in order to maximise their chances of breaking in to the elite “Top 4” at the tournament, which has traditionally been dominated by Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Team captain Mel Goosen said: “We’ve trained extremely hard for this tournament and the dedication from the players has been outstanding. We have strong combinations throughout the court, we have depth on our team and we believe in ourselves. We’re really looking forward to the challenge of meeting the top teams this year.”

و سيتواجد خلال الحدث الذي سيستمر ليومين 21 فريق نسائي من كل من العين ، أبو ظبي ، البحرين ، دبي ، قطر والكويت و سيتنافسون على جائزة الكأس و الصحن اللوحة. بالإضافة إلى ذلك فسينضم إليهم أربع فرق رجالية و هم حاصلين على جائزة الفريق من نادي هوكليكوت لكرة الشبكة في انكلترا. و سيلعب الرجال في الفريق الخاص بهم ، في حين سيشارك منتخب هوكليكوت ضد أحسن ثمانية فرق في القمة الخليجية في منافسة مستقلة تسمى كاس المدعوين.
تتصدر دبي الميدان مع تسجيل 7 فرق للبطولة في دورتها السنوية الثالثة و العشرون. وسيكون المصنف الأول في دبي هناك لدرء أحد الفائزين السابقين من أبو ظبي و الذين يحرصون على إعادة الحصول على اللقب. وقالت المتحدثة جاكلين كوتزي من أبو ظبي : “إن فريق أبو ظبي متحمس جدا للعودة إلى البحرين للمشاركة في بطولات الرفاع ڤيوز لكرة الشبكة الخليجية ، والتي كانت ناجحة للغاية في عام 2008.”
وأضافت ” البطولة تسلط الضوء على الموسم لكرة الشبكة لفريق أبو ظبي وتشكل لدينا سجل في حال والتي نأمل أن نبني عليه. لا سيما ونحن حريصين على وجود مجال لفرق الرجال ، الذي سيكون الأول من نوعه في العاصمة. تم تدريب ثلاث فرق في أبو ظبي يتشكلون من الصرامة وروح المنافسة العالية! “.

و قال ريتشارد براوننج الرئيس التنفيذي للرفاع ڤيوز : ” إن البطولة تبعث على الارتياح و نحن كرعاة رسميين للبطولات فإننا نرى أن البحرين لها سمعة ممتازة في الرياضية و مكانتها تزداد بشكل مستمر. ويسرنا أن نعلم أن البطولة هذه السنة قد اجتذبت عددا قياسيا من الفرق الإقليمية. دوري البحرين لكرة الشبكة قام بعمل عظيم في زيادة تحسين البطولة ورفع مكانتها في جميع الأنحاء دوليا لكرة الشبكة “.

Men’s Teams Boost Riffa View Inter-Gulf Netball Championships

Four men’s netball teams from Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi will compete against each other for the first time at the 23-year old Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships which will be held at the Bahrain Rugby Club in Saar on the 13th and 14th March.
Defending champions, Bahrain Men, will look forward to defending their title from 2008 against previous winners, Dubai Men, and newcomers, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi.
Men’s netball has grown in the Gulf since the introduction of the Men’s Championship at the Inter-Gulf tournament in Al Ain in 2004.
Event Manager, Michaela Milne said: “Smaller Gulf regions such as Kuwait, Al Ain and Doha depend on male players to keep their leagues going and it was a priority for us as organisers to recognise their contribution and give them a platform for their own competition. The men’s matches always attract a huge crowd and we look forward to the competition this year.”
In addition to playing against their Gulf counterparts, the Men’s teams will also have to face the formidable Hucclecote Ladies Invitational team from England which features some of the best young netball players in England. Hucclecote team manager Barbara Warburton said: “It’s a huge pleasure for us to travel to Bahrain to play the best teams in the Gulf. We see playing against the men as a huge challenge and we look forward to meeting them on the courts in March.”

و علقت ميكايلا ميلني : “الدول الصغير نسبيا في مناطق الخليج مثل الكويت والدوحة والعين تعتمد على اللاعبين الرجال للحفاظ على بطولات الدوري وسوف تمثل أولوية بالنسبة لنا للاعتراف بالمنظمة و مساهمتها ومنحها منصة للمنافسة خاصة بها . و يجذب الرجال دائما الجمهور الكبير للمباريات ، ونحن نتطلع إلى المنافسة هذا العام “.
