Eden Challenge Reaches Decision Time

By this time next week, judging will be well underway in the 2009 Riffa Views Eden Challenge as the four judges, led by Riffa Views Ambassador, Garden & Landscapes, Chris Beardshaw, look to select individual category winners and the overall winner in this year’s environmental competition for the schools of Bahrain.
Entries in the four age groups – 6 to 9 years; 10 – 12 years; 13 – 15 years; and 16 – 18 years of age – are due to be handed in to Riffa Views Signature Estates, the originators and organizers of the Eden Challenge, by 12th January. Last year, the 2008 Eden Challenge received 150 completed project entries – based on registration figures of 80 schools and 159 categories, this year should see many more imaginative creations, all based around ‘water’ – the theme of this year’s Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show – for the judges to view.
Over the last few weeks, we have carried comments from three members of the four member judging panel – this week we complete the line-up with Zuhair Al Dallal, Director of Properties & Parks for the Manama Municipality, who regards the Riffa Views Eden Challenge as one of the most challenging and interactive activities for school children in Bahrain, aimed at raising awareness for the protection of nature and preservation of the environment.
Al Dallal commented further, “I am delighted to be involved once again with the Eden Challenge. I am expecting more entries this year of a higher quality across the whole of the four age groups. It’s going to be a great experience for us all to see the range of entries from the schools and the efforts they will all bring to producing spectacular projects.”
Chris Beardshaw, due to arrive on the island early next week ahead of the judging process, is under no illusion that he and the other three judges will face a tough time in deciding on the winners. He and Richard Browning, CEO of Riffa Views, were somewhat overwhelmed by the quality of the entries last year – “walking into the judging room last year, was a real eye-opener into the imagination and creativity of the younger generation in Bahrain” – and they expect no less an experience this year.
Once the judges have made their decisions and the winning schools informed, we will bring you the first news and pictures of the four age group category winners and the Overall 2009 Riffa Views Eden Challenge Winner, selected from the individual winners. Last year’s overall winning school was The Umm Salama Intermediate Girls – we will soon know who is going to receive that accolade for 2009.

خلال الأسابيع القليلة الماضية ، حصانا على التعليقات من ثلاثة أعضاء قائمين على لجنة التحكيم من أصل أربعة – و هذا الأسبوع نكمل التشكيلة مع زهير الدلال ، مدير العقارات و المتنزهات في بلدية المنامة ، والذي يعتبر تحدي الرفاع ڤيوز واحدة من أصعب المسابقات لأطفال المدارس في البحرين ، حيث يهدف إلى زيادة الوعي لحماية الطبيعة والمحافظة على البيئة.
و أيضا علق الدلال قائلا ، “إنني مسرور للمشاركة مرة أخرى مع تحدي الحدائق. وإنني أتوقع المزيد من المشاركات هذا العام و بجودة لجميع الفئات العمرية الأربعة. ستكون تجربة رائعة بالنسبة لنا جميعا أن نرى مجموعة كبيرة من المشاركات من مدارس البحرين ، و التي ستبذل جاهدة لتحقيق المشاركات المذهلة “.
و من المقرر أن يصل كريس بيردشو إلى الجزيرة في مطلع الأسبوع لكي يبدأ عملية التحكيم ، و نحن متأكدين انه سيلاقي صعوبة مع لجنة التحكيم في اتخاذ القرار بشأن الفائزين. و قد انبهر كريس بيردشو و ريتشارد براوننج الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة الرفاع ڤيوز بنوعية المشاركات في العام الماضي — “إلقاء النظر على الأعمال بغية تقييم الأعمال في العام الماضي فتح عيني على خيال وإبداع جيل الشباب في البحرين” — وإنهم يتوقعون أن لا تقل تجربة هذا العام عن ما سبقه.
سنوافيكم بالنتائج و الصور عندما ستقرر لجنة التحكيم أسماء المدارس لجميع الفئات العمرية ، بالإضافة إلى الفائز الكلي للرفاع فيوز و تحدي الحدائق لعام 2009. و كانت مدرسة أم سلمه الإعدادية للبنات هي الفائز الكلي من فئة المدارس الإعدادية.
