Riffa Views Eden Challenge – What it takes to impress the judges

The Riffa Views Eden Challenge 2009, the schools’ environmental competition that was so successfully launched last year, is already well underway. Registration closed at the end of last month with 80 schools across Bahrain registering 159 entries in the four age group categories – a sizeable increase on last year’s entry numbers.
All of these schools will now be working hard on developing projects that fit within the overall theme of The Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show 2009 (RVBIGS 2009) – ‘Water For Life’; their hope being that they will be chosen as a category winner and have their project turned into ‘reality’ and displayed at RVBIGS 2009 on the Riffa Views Eden Challenge stand.
The Eden Challenge judging panel will undoubtedly face a tough selection job in January when all the final entries are submitted. Starting today and continuing over the coming weeks, we will be giving the schools some hints as to what the judges will be looking for when they select the category winners – first up with her comments on what she will be focusing on is Shaikha Munira bint Ahmed Al-Khalifa, who is a Member of the Bahrain Garden Fair Committee, a past Chairperson of the Bahrain Garden Club and has been instrumental in the development of the Bahrain International Garden Show, of which she is a Committee Member.
Shaikha Munira was a member of the judging panel for the inaugural Riffa Views Eden Challenge 2008, so she has experience of the ingenuity and imagination that the various school teams will be putting into their projects. She anticipates that the overall standard of entries for Eden Challenge 2009 will be even higher than Eden Challenge 2008 as schools have the experience of last year to build on to show an even greater degree of creativity and artistic imagination.
She said “In assessing the Eden Challenge entries, I will really be looking for a combination of creativity and artistic use of materials, coupled with a good appreciation for the environment through the delivery of an ‘environmentally friendly’ project”.
Her message to the local artists of Bahrain is that “…their creativity is only limited by their imagination” and it seems that Shaikha Munira is looking for this message to be taken onboard by the schools in Eden Challenge 2009 and fully expects it to be borne out by the multi-various project entries that she and the rest of the judging panel will have to select the winners from. It is a task that she is looking forward to enormously.

الرفاع ڤيوز و تحدي الحدائق لعام 2009 ،و هي المسابقة البيئية للمدارس و التي انطلقت بنجاح في العام الماضي ، قطع هذا التحدي شوطا بعيدا حتى الآن.و قد تم إغلاق باب التسجيل في نهاية الشهر الماضي مع 80 مدرسة مشاركة من جميع أنحاء البحرين و 159 فئة من أربع فئات عمرية مختلفة سجلت بها هذه و إن هذه الأعداد تعد زيادة كبيرة مقارنة بالعام الماضي.
و جميع هذه المدارس المشاركة مجتهدة الآن بالعمل على الأعمال المشاركة و التي سيقوم بالاشتراك بها من الآن و ذلك لخدمة الفكرة و التي هي موضوع معرض الرفاع ڤيوز البحرين الدولي للحدائق لعام 2009 — ‘الماء من أجل الحياة’ ؛ و نأمل الآن في أن يتم اختيار الفائزين من جميع الفئات و تحويل مشاركاتهم إلى واقع حيث سيتم عرضها في موقع التحدي في معرض الرفاع ڤيوز البحرين الدولي للحدائق.
و لاشك بأن لجنة التحكيم لهذا التحدي ستواجه صعوبات في اختيار الأعمال الفائزة و التي سيتم تسليمها في شهر يناير. واعتبارا من اليوم واستمرارا خلال الأسابيع القادمة ، سنلمح للمدارس ببعض ما يقوله لجنة التحكيم في اختيار الأعمال الفائز في كل فئة – و أول ما سنوصل تلميحاتهم من اللجنة هي الشيخة منيرة بنت أحمد بن راشد آل خليفة ، و هي عضوه في لجنة معرض البحرين للحدائق ، و الرئيسة السابقة لنادي البحرين للحدائقي حيث لعبت دورا مهما في تنمية معرض البحرين الدولي للحدائق ،حيث أنها عضوه من أعضاء اللجنة هناك.
كانت الشيخة منيرة عضوه في لجنة التحكيم في مسابقة الرفاع ڤيوز و تحدي الحدائق لعام 2008, حيث أنها قامت بمعايشة الكثير من الإبداع والخيال من مختلف المدارس و التي قامت المدارس بعملها. وقالت إنها تتوقع أن الجهود الشاملة التي تحدد مستوى المشاركات في تحدي الحدائق لعام 2009 سيكون أعلى بكثير من تحدي الحدائق لعام 2008 من خلال تجربة العام الماضي لبناء و إظهار أكبر قدر من الإبداع والخيال الفني.
وقالت أيضا: “إن تقييم مشاركات تحدي الحدائق من جانبها سوف يعتمد في البحث عن مزيج من الإبداع الفني واستخدام المواد الصحيحة، إلى جانب حسن تقدير العمل للبيئة من خلال تقدي مشروع ‘ صديق للبيئة’”.
و أرسلت رسالة إلى جميع الفنانين المحليين في البحرين قائلة: “يجب أن يكون الإبداع محدود فقط بالخيال” ويبدو أن الشيخة منيرة تبحث عن هذه الرسالة التي ينبغي الحصول عليها في المشاركات في تحدي الحدائق لعام 2009 أنها تتوقع أن تضع المدارس كل هذا بعين الاعتبار لجميع المشاركات المختلفة بالإضافة إلى بقية لجنة التحكيم . و أنها تتطلع كثيرا إلى هذه المهمة الصعبة جدا”.
