Riffa Views launches Eden Challenge Tree Planting initiative
January 16, 2008
Riffa Views today launched the Eden Challenge Tree Planting Initiative which is part of its commitment to all the schools that registered to participate in the Riffa Views Eden Challenge competition. In addition to planting a tree in each school, a tree will also be planted in a special Education Grove within Riffa Views Signature Estates. Each school will also receive a commemorative plaque in recognition of the environmental commitment shown by all the schoolchildren that participated in the Eden Challenge. “Each tree will become an enduring reminder of the dedication and hard work of all the pupils who were involved in the Eden Challenge”, mentioned Richard Browning, CEO of Riffa Views.
Mr. Browning also announced the winning entries for three of the five relevant categories in the competition. The winning projects will be built and displayed on the Riffa Views’ Schools stand during the Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show (RVBIGS 08) to be held at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre from the 22nd to 24th February. The joint winners in the Primary category will be transformed into floral mosaics. The centerpiece of the stand will be the winning sculpture from the Intermediate category. The joint Secondary category’s winning designs will be transformed into real garden settings. RVBIGS will be the perfect showcase for the exhibits which will demonstrate the passion and level of involvement that the children put into their entries
Mr. Browning added: “As part of our commitment to the RVBIGS 2008 we want to get as many people involved in the show as possible and, in particular, the school children. The Riffa Views Eden Challenge aims at encouraging children to develop a sense of responsibility to their environment and we are delighted with the level of interest shown in the competition.”
The Eden Challenge, which is being held in the run up to the RVBIGS 2008, has generated great interest amongst schools in Bahrain with 74 registered schools from a cross-section of the community. The competition was designed to engage Bahrain’s schoolchildren and raise environmental awareness at grass roots level by encouraging pupils to learn and care about their surroundings. The Eden Challenge entries were based on garden and lifestyle and structured to carry elements of art, science and handicraft, as well as nature and gardens. The standard of entries was so high that in two of the three categories that were recently judged, joint winners were chosen. The remaining two categories, A: Junior and E: Special Needs, will be judged by the expert panel of judges leaded by Riffa Views International Ambassador, Chris Beardshaw on the February 19th.
